Design

The F-150 Lightning retains the core exterior shape of the conventional F-150, prioritizing practicality and familiarity for truck buyers. Its most distinct exterior feature is the front end, which replaces the traditional engine bay with a large, powered front trunk. The vehicle measures 5911 mm in length and features a 3696 mm wheelbase. Depending on the trim level, it rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and includes standard exterior LED lighting, with optional surround-view cameras to assist with low-speed maneuvering.

Interior

Inside, the Crew Cab offers seating for five with a focus on modern technology and space. The dashboard is dominated by digital interfaces, including an available 15.5-inch SYNC 4A touchscreen and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. Features like multi-contour heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic roof, and leather upholstery are available on higher-tier models such as the Platinum trim. Storage is ample throughout the cabin, supplementing the exterior cargo capabilities.

Performance

Performance is driven by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. The Standard-Range model uses a 98-kWh battery producing 432 horsepower and 1051 Nm of torque, providing an estimated 370 km of range. The Extended-Range version steps up to a 131-kWh battery, increasing output to 571 horsepower while maintaining 1051 Nm of torque. This extends the range to roughly 483 km and enables a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of under 5 seconds. Both versions support 150-kW DC fast charging, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in just over 40 minutes.

Practicality

As a full-size pickup, utility is a primary focus. The Standard-Range battery allows for a maximum payload of 907 kg and a towing capacity of up to 3500 kg. The heavier Extended-Range version sacrifices some payload capacity, dropping to 816 kg, but increases the maximum towing capability to over 4500 kg. The truck is equipped with a bi-directional power system capable of delivering up to 9.6 kW of power through multiple 120V outlets and USB ports located in the frunk, cabin, and bed.

Safety and tech

The Lightning is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, including Ford's BlueCruise Level 2 autonomous driving technology on compatible highways. Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping systems, and blind-spot monitoring. The infotainment system operates on SYNC 4A, which supports over-the-air updates. Buyers can also specify high-end audio setups, including a Bang & Olufsen sound system with up to 18 speakers and a subwoofer.

Buyer notes

When comparing configurations, buyers should weigh their need for daily driving range against payload and towing requirements. The Extended-Range battery is necessary for maximum towing but slightly reduces overall payload capacity. Available trims range from standard specifications to luxury models like the Platinum, meaning interior materials and technology features will vary significantly depending on the selected version.
