Design

While retaining the familiar faceted surfacing of the brand, the new NX adopts a slightly softer exterior presence. The sharp daytime running lights are now integrated directly into the main headlight units, framing a larger, more vertical spindle grille. At the rear, the vehicle features a full-width LED light bar connecting the taillights, and the traditional emblem has been replaced by spaced-out 'Lexus' lettering. The crossover comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, with 20-inch options available on higher trims.

Interior

The cabin represents a major departure from the previous generation. It introduces a driver-focused layout featuring a standard digital instrument cluster and an available 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports over-the-air updates. The center console is reorganized with a shift-by-wire gear selector. Lexus also offers 64 colors of ambient lighting. Redesigned door panels and a new steering wheel with partially touch-sensitive controls complete the updated environment.

Performance

The powertrain lineup is diverse. The headliner is the NX 450h+, the brand's first plug-in hybrid, pairing a 2.5-liter engine with electric motors and an 18.1-kWh battery for 306 horsepower, standard all-wheel drive, and a 6.3-second 0-100 km/h time. A standard hybrid, the 242-hp NX 350h, is also available in both front- and all-wheel drive. Conventional engine options include a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 279 hp paired with an 8-speed automatic and AWD, as well as an entry-level 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine making 173 hp with a continuously variable transmission.

Practicality

With a 520-liter trunk and a spacious cabin accommodating up to five passengers, the NX handles daily family duties effectively. The transition to the new platform and the extended wheelbase yield marginal improvements in overall passenger space, while ground clearance sits at a practical 188 mm for urban and light unpaved driving.

Safety and tech

The crossover is equipped with the Lexus Safety System+ suite. Using a millimeter-wave radar and a monocular camera, it manages adaptive cruise control and recognizes pedestrians, cyclists, and road signs. A notable addition is the Safe Exit Assist, which ties into the blind-spot monitoring system to prevent doors from being opened if a vehicle or bicycle is approaching from behind. Remote parking via a smartphone application is also supported.

Buyer notes

Shoppers should carefully consider their driving habits when choosing an engine. The plug-in hybrid offers up to 63 kilometers of electric range, making it ideal for short commutes, while the traditional 350h hybrid provides excellent mixed-cycle efficiency. The 2.4-liter turbo is the choice for more traditional performance. Available F Sport trims add adaptive suspension and distinct styling cues.
